Dubai Municipality revealed Tuesday that it successfully conducted 52,233 inspections in the environment, health, and food sectors in the first half of 2024.

The government agency said these inspections ensured that various activities and organizations in the city complied with standards for consumer products, food safety, health, and environmental standards.

Naseem Mohammad Rafee, Acting CEO of the Environment, Health and Safety Agency at Dubai Municipality, emphasized the agency's commitment to regular inspections and campaigns to build a strong food and health system.

The goal is to create a sustainable environment that supports flexible food supply chains and ensures food security in Dubai.

"Dubai Municipality places a major emphasis on the food, environment, and safety sectors. We constantly strive to develop these sectors and enhance their safety through monitoring to guarantee the highest standards of safety and quality of life in the Emirate," Rafee said, according to WAM.

"Additionally, we seek to offer a cutting-edge infrastructure that supports the growth of businesses and initiatives while ensuring strict compliance with all the laws, regulations, and guidelines enacted in Dubai and the UAE," he added.

The Municipality's campaigns at ports checked over 17,000 shipments of consumer products, totaling 145,000 tons, to ensure they met approved standards.

Dubai's food safety teams performed about 18,374 inspections at various food establishments, including restaurants, hotels, cafés, supermarkets, hypermarkets, and events, totaling 31 events. They also filed 2,733 food safety reports.

During the first half of 2024, Dubai reported 25,000 food establishments, with 1,373 new ones opening in this period. Dubai Municipality's environmental teams carried out 4,331 inspections including 3,378 at projects, industrial sites, and service facilities.

The municipality uses a smart inspection system to plan and perform environmental checks efficiently. It also runs a virtual awareness campaign to ensure businesses follow environmental laws.

Furthermore, 783 inspections focused on the marine environment, coastal areas, and sea sampling to ensure projects comply with environmental laws. The municipality also conducted 170 inspections of natural reserves in Dubai as part of its monitoring program.

Dubai Municipality also dealt with 3,305 reports about stray animals and violations of animal welfare rules. It also inspected around 160,402 slaughtered animals in Dubai's slaughterhouses to ensure they were safe to eat.

Moreover, the municipality checked 584,276 livestock and 465,445 tons of animal feed and food arriving in the Emirate.

Earlier this month, a partnership agreement between Dubai Municipality and DP World was signed to establish the "Foodstuffs, Fruits, and Vegetables Market," which will be the world's largest.
