An African maid, who was jailed for allegedly assaulting her employer, will be deported to her country after she serves her one-month sentence in prison, Dubai authorities said.
The victim told the police the maid attacked her when she had told her that she would terminate her services after her trial period was over, the Khaleej Times reported on Monday.
The employer told the suspect she can continue staying in her room until the former's husband returned from his travels and took her back to her recruitment agency. However, the unidentified maid refused and yelled at her.
When the employer attempted to go upstairs to protect her children from the attack, the maid ran after her and managed to grab her and drag her down.
The unidentified employer suffered injuries to her forearms after trying to resist the attack. She told the police the maid had tried to push her from the upper floor of her house, but she managed to call a family member, who saved her.
The maid denied the employer's story during the interrogation, but she was charged with assault after forensic reports and a medical examination of the victim were found to be consistent with the employer's statement.
The exact nationality of the maid has not been revealed by the authorities. The date of the incident was also not clear.
This is not the first case of an African maid has been accused of assaulting her employer in the UAE. In June, the Dubai Criminal Court sentenced an African maid to one year in prison to be followed by deportation after she had assaulted her female employer to the point of breaking her finger and causing a sustainable disability to her.
Based on the employer's complaint, the attack happened following an argument between her and her maid, who punched her and pulled her by the hair until she fell on the ground. The complainant sustained multiple injuries and bruises as a result of the assault. During the interrogation, however, the maid denied attacking her employer but admitted she broke her finger, allegedly because she had tried to beat her.
