Emarat Petroleum Company (Emarat) and Lootah Biofuels have signed an agreement to work together on promoting renewable energy and sustainability in the UAE.

The agreement sets up a plan for collaboration between the two companies to achieve shared goals, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions and pollution caused by traditional fuels, WAM reported.

Their efforts align with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure's (MoEI) directives to promote clean energy and sustainability. This partnership supports the National Biofuels Policy and the UAE's goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

Emarat CEO Ali Khalifa Al Shamsi highlighted the company's dedication to providing innovative and sustainable energy solutions aligned with the UAE's vision for a cleaner environment. He said that partnering with Lootah Biofuels is a key step in integrating biofuels into Emarat's network of stations.

Lootah Biofuels Founder and CEO Yousif Saeed Lootah expressed pride in collaborating with Emarat, noting that the partnership serves as a strong example of government and private sector cooperation to support national sustainability initiatives.

The collaboration focuses on collecting used cooking oils, developing biofuels, and advancing sustainable aviation fuel, contributing to the country's sustainability goals. Al Shamsi and Lootah signed the MoU in the presence of senior officials from both organizations.

The agreement focuses on expanding the collection of used cooking oils through Emarat's retail station network, adding biodiesel to their offerings, exploring the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and supplying biodiesel to vessels at certain ports.

The two companies will create a system for collecting used cooking oils through Emarat's stations for recycling and biofuel production as part of the agreement. This initiative aims to reduce environmental impact by expanding partnerships for oil collection.

They will also develop a detailed plan covering equipment, processes, customer engagement, financial arrangements, and other aspects to ensure an efficient and reliable system.

Emarat plans to include biodiesel produced by Lootah Biofuels at its retail stations, following the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure's (MoEI) guidelines. The initial offering will consist of biodiesel B5, with plans to improve and expand based on MoEI's timelines.

To support sustainable transport and the aviation sector, both companies will work on feasibility studies and investment plans to build a plant for manufacturing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for the UAE and the region.

They will also explore opportunities to supply biodiesel to vessels at certain ports, contributing to sustainable maritime transport and enhancing the UAE's role as a global hub for maritime and logistics services.
