Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled a new 1,000-meter, two-lane bridge designed to enhance traffic flow between Hessa Street and Al Khail Road.

The bridge provides a smooth connection to Dubai's city center and Dubai International Airport, cutting the travel time from Hessa Street to Al Khail Road from 15 minutes to just three minutes, WAM reported.

RTA also announced that 54% of the Hessa Street development project has been completed, including upgrades to four major intersections. All intersections are expected to be fully operational by the fourth quarter of 2025.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of RTA, explained that the Hessa Street development project, which spans 4.5 km from its intersection with Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Khail Road, is being carried out under the guidance of Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The project is part of ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure in line with Dubai's growth, urban development, and increasing population. He added that the project involves upgrading four key intersections along Hessa Street — Sheikh Zayed Road, First Al Khail Road, Al Asayel Street, and Al Khail Road.

It also includes widening Hessa Street from two lanes to four lanes in each direction, doubling its capacity to handle up to 8,000 vehicles per hour. A 13.5-kilometer cycling track is also being built to improve connectivity and encourage sustainable transport. The total cost of the project is AED 689 million.

Al Tayer further explained that the Hessa Street development project is an important infrastructure effort to improve Dubai's road network. It serves key residential and development areas, including Al Sufouh 2, Al Barsha Residential Area, and Jumeirah Village Circle.

The population in these areas is expected to exceed 640,000 residents by 2030. The project will double the capacity of Hessa Street, increasing its ability to handle 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, up from 8,000 vehicles.

The project includes developing four key intersections. At the Hessa Street and Sheikh Zayed Road intersection, a two-lane ramp will be built over the Dubai Metro's Red Line to allow right-turn traffic onto Hessa Street heading east.

At the Hessa Street and First Al Khail Road intersection, the existing bridge will be expanded from three to four lanes in each direction, and traffic flow at the signalized junction will be improved.

The Hessa and Asayel Streets intersection will see the current bridge widened to four lanes in each direction, with upgrades to the signalized intersection for better traffic movement.

Lastly, at the Hessa Street and Al Khail Road intersection, a two-lane direct ramp will be built to ensure smooth traffic flow onto Al Khail Road north toward Sharjah.
