The Digital Sharjah Department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Microsoft to launch a national initiative to provide many government employees with skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The effort highlights Sharjah's commitment to using advanced technology to benefit the community and promote sustainable development. The goal of the MoU is to train a wide range of employees from different government sectors, including top executives, developers, and IT specialists.

The training program will focus on using the latest AI technologies to boost productivity and encourage innovation. Director-General of the Digital Sharjah Department Sheikh Saud bin Sultan Al Qasimi said that Digital Sharjah is dedicated to achieving digital excellence, which is aligned with Sharjah's vision.

He noted that the goal is to use new technologies to support human resources and promote sustainable development. The partnership with Microsoft is expected to create new opportunities for employees, allowing them to play a key role in the digital future with efficiency and creativity.

Naim Yazbeck, General Manager of Microsoft UAE, highlighted that Sharjah has a rich history of technological innovation and a commitment to excellence.

"Microsoft's AI National Skills Initiative is a testament to this legacy. By investing in the AI skills of the emirate's government employees, we are empowering them to effectively harness and develop cutting-edge AI solutions that deliver smarter, more agile, and personalized public services," Yazbeck was quoted as saying by WAM.

"We are proud to collaborate with the Digital Sharjah Department to support its bold vision for AI transformation and excellence in governance," he added.

Microsoft's AI National Skills initiative supports the UAE's goal of using Artificial Intelligence to drive economic and social progress.

Besides providing government employees with essential tools, the initiative also aims to promote ethical and sustainable technological advancements that encourage innovation and improve the overall quality of life.

Last month, Sharjah introduced the world's first trade license entirely processed through AI, which allows entrepreneurs and investors to complete the entire licensing process in under five minutes, making it faster and easier than ever before.

This makes Invest in Sharjah the first agency in the world to use AI for issuing trade licenses, showing its dedication to encouraging investment and cooperation between local and international markets.
