The Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy on Sunday launched the App Olympics, which is part of the "Create Apps in Dubai" program, at Expand North Star.

Expand North Star is the world's largest event for startups and investors, held by the Chamber at Dubai Harbour from Oct. 13 to Oct. 16.

The competition is managed by the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy to train over 1,000 Emiratis in coding, mobile app development, and business creation through the Emirati Training Academy.

The initiative also plans to triple the number of app developers in Dubai by 2025 and support 100 new national projects for developing advanced mobile apps. Registration for the App Olympics is open until Nov. 13.

Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said the App Olympics is part of several initiatives aimed at making Dubai a global center for advanced technology and digital innovation.

He highlighted the importance of encouraging talented people to create innovative solutions that help build a better future for everyone, adding that Dubai is leading the global adoption of cutting-edge technologies and using them in all sectors.

The Crown Prince said Dubai has become one of the world's leading cities in developing tech-driven industries and serves as a model for an economy based on investment in advanced technologies.

"Building on Dubai's remarkable achievements, particularly in the digital economy, we are continuing to position the emirate at the forefront of future-oriented innovation," Sheikh Hamdan said, according to WAM.

"The digital economy is a key pillar of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and we call on all stakeholders to capitalize on opportunities to drive sustainable growth and prosperity," he added.

Sheikh Hamdan also said that the strong global interest in the App Olympics shows Dubai's important role in promoting innovation and speeding up digital transformation. He noted that Dubai provides a platform to share and showcase new ideas with the world, helping them spread and influence future trends. This emphasizes Dubai's key role in leading global digital change by supporting tech ideas that could transform different industries.

Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, and the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy Chairman also spoke about the app, noting that it has garnered worldwide interest.

This initiative will help strengthen Dubai's position as a leader in the rapidly growing global tech industry by attracting top talent and innovators.
