Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) kicked off the first phase of eco-friendly electric bus rides, introducing several routes connecting three destinations between cities to improve public transportation as a part of its efforts to use more environmentally friendly vehicles and achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

Engineer Youssef Khamis Al Othmani, Chairman of SRTA, announced that 10 electric buses connecting Dubai, Ajman, and Al Hamriyah will operate in the first phase. He said that these locations were chosen based on studies and statistics from the Intercity Transport Department, focusing on popular routes with high passenger numbers.

Al Othmani emphasized the Authority's commitment to high-quality standards in its environmental efforts. They aim to promote green transportation and reduce carbon emissions by implementing plans that support sustainable initiatives and align with government goals for safe and eco-friendly transport, WAM reported.

A contract has been signed to buy 10 electric buses as the first step, after testing two buses to see how well they work. The buses were chosen based on how well they fit the climate in the UAE.

More electric buses will be added in Sharjah to help reduce carbon emissions and promote renewable energy in public transport. The new buses are King Long models, measuring 9 meters long and can carry 41 passengers.

These buses meet international safety standards and have received a European safety certificate. The buses are air-conditioned and have a battery cooling system to handle the hot climate in the UAE.

Last week, Sharjah introduced the world's first trade license entirely processed through artificial intelligence (AI). This innovative move allows entrepreneurs and investors to complete the entire licensing process in under five minutes, making it faster and easier than ever before.

This makes Invest in Sharjah the first agency in the world to use AI for issuing trade licenses, showing its dedication to encouraging investment and cooperation between local and international markets.

Also, Sharjah is all set to host the inaugural Regional Data and Community Development Forum from Oct. 9 to 10. Over 100 global experts, officials, and data specialists will attend the event organized by the Department of Statistics and Community Development (DSCD).
