The UAE Council for Climate Action reviewed the progress of national projects in cooperation with relevant authorities across the country and discussed preparations for COP29, which will be held in Azerbaijan in November.

The council's third meeting of this year was led by Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, the Minister of Climate Change and Environment, who thanked the council members and teams from different organizations for their teamwork and efforts in promoting a sustainable future for the UAE.

The meeting focused on important topics, especially the progress of the UAE's Net Zero Strategy 2050. The council also reviewed progress on the carbon market project and the Carbon Pricing Study. Future work will compare different carbon pricing options and develop models to assess their possible economic and social impacts.

It also stressed the need for ongoing cooperation with all parties involved to ensure the successful completion of the strategy's projects. It also decided that an annual report on the strategy's progress and results should be submitted to the Cabinet every January, starting in 2025.

The meeting also discussed the need for laws to reduce the social and economic effects of climate change, aiming to support sustainable economic growth and social well-being.

"This meeting is particularly significant as we actively participate in important global forums. Our goal is to showcase the UAE's vision for addressing climate change and fostering sustainability," Al Dahak said, according to WAM.

"Recent examples include our participation in the G20 Agriculture Ministers' Meeting in Brazil and our upcoming attendance at the UN General Assembly. Through these platforms, we aim to emphasize the UAE's role in addressing climate challenges domestically and internationally and striving for environmental sustainability," she added.

Al Dahak emphasized that the UAE has a clear goal of reaching Net Zero by 2050, focusing on a sustainable climate and environment. She noted that this goal is being realized through concrete projects and real achievements, which the council plans to expand.

She also expressed confidence in the council's ability to continue implementing this vision across all sectors, staying on track with their timeline. Al Dahak highlighted the importance of showing the world that the UAE turns its ambitious plans into real actions. She said their aim is to build on the UAE's long-standing commitment to climate and environmental efforts.
