The United Arab Emirates and the United States signed a new agreement strengthening cooperation between the two nations in artificial intelligence (AI) and related technologies.

The agreement, called the Common Principles for Cooperation on AI, was welcomed by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and endorsed by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi, and U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan during a meeting at the White House.

Prior to this, the UAE president met with his American counterpart, Joe Biden.

According to the official statement, both countries highlighted their shared commitment to strengthen ties in artificial intelligence, recognizing its ability to boost economic growth, improve education and healthcare, create jobs, and support environmental sustainability, WAM reported.

Both countries plan to work together to ensure AI is safe, secure and trustworthy. The UAE and the U.S. aim to align regulations to promote innovation, encourage ethical AI research, enhance cooperation in cybersecurity, and create opportunities for trade and investment.

Furthermore, the two nations will focus on talent development, promote clean energy for AI and support sustainable AI development in developing countries.

Aside from signing the agreement, the UAE President met with U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday at the White House to discuss the strong partnership between the UAE and the United States.

They discussed the progress made in their relationship in recent years and looked for more ways to work together in areas like the economy, trade, investment, technology, energy, climate action, and more.

Al Nahyan and Harris also discussed several regional and global issues that are important to both countries. During the meeting, the UAE president emphasized that regional stability benefits everyone and highlighted the need for a fair and lasting peace based on the two-state solution to help the people in the region.

He also expressed gratitude for Harris' efforts in recent years to strengthen UAE-US relations and improve cooperation on global issues like energy security, climate change and sustainable development.

Al Nahyan and Harris expressed confidence that UAE-U.S. relations will keep growing, supported by their shared commitment to enhancing cooperation based on the values and goals of both countries.
