Dubai CommerCity and a joint venture between the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ) and Wasl Properties signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with eBay, a global e-commerce leader.

Dubai CommerCity is the first free zone focused solely on digital commerce. With this MoU, Dubai CommerCity will help businesses grow, increase their sales, and reach more customers through eBay's online platforms.

During a ceremony at Dubai CommerCity's headquarters Wednesday, Abdulrahman Shaheen, Executive Vice President of Operations at Dubai CommerCity, and Ashish Chhabra, Vice President and General Manager of Global Verticals at eBay, signed the MoU in the presence of representatives from both organizations.

"Our collaboration with eBay will significantly enhance the digital presence of companies within Dubai CommerCity, unlocking new growth and investment opportunities. By expanding their reach to over 190 global markets, this cooperation aligns with our mission to facilitate business operations across various sectors and drive the growth of companies in the region," Shaheen was quoted as saying by WAM.

Shaheen further said that this partnership will greatly improve the services and benefits provided by Dubai CommerCity. It will help meet the needs of local and international companies and brands by offering smart logistics, advanced infrastructure, and the latest technology.

"Our primary focus in the UAE is to enable local retailers to sell to the world through our marketplace, connecting them with 132 million active buyers across 190 countries," Chabbra said, expressing his excitement to collaborate with Dubai CommerCity.

"This partnership will enhance the supply of high-demand auto parts and luxury products from the UAE, leveraging our technology and infrastructure to support growth and reshape the digital commerce landscape," he added.

Chhabra said that this new agreement is a great chance for innovative companies to use eBay's platform, with help from Dubai CommerCity, to grow and expand their e-commerce businesses worldwide.

Dubai CommerCity will support eBay by encouraging its companies to join eBay's workshops, seminars, and educational events. It will also provide the needed infrastructure for these programs. Furthermore, Dubai CommerCity will help eBay users who want to set up their businesses in Dubai.

Meanwhile, DIEZ announced earlier this week that the first half of 2024 recorded an 18% increase in net profit, a 12% rise in total revenue and a 7% in operating profit in Dubai's commercial landscape and non-oil economy, compared to last year.
