The United Arab Emirates Ministry of Interior (MoI), through its Child Protection Center, has launched an initiative to train 100 specialized officers from the Philippine National Police as Child Protection Specialists.

This initiative uses the UAE's extensive experience in developing skills, training personnel, and enhancing knowledge in areas such as legislation, laws, investigation methods, and child interviews to strengthen community protection and prevent crime.

Atty. Benjamin "Benhur" C. Abalos, Secretary of Interior and Local Government of the Philippines, thanked the UAE and its Ministry of Interior for their efforts, cooperation, and dedication to improving bilateral relations, WAM reported.

He praised the UAE's achievements in child protection, making it a global leader as per the international indicators.

The specialized training began in Camp BGen Rafael T. Crame in Quezon City, the Philippines, with Abalos and officers from both the UAE MOI and Philippine National Police in attendance.

The program uses a hybrid system with in-person workshops and virtual lectures, allowing for independent learning and live interactive sessions. The training covers several key areas to improve the skills of personnel, including responding to cases of child abuse, handling forensic evidence, and utilizing artificial intelligence platforms to combat online crimes against children.

The training session also addresses criminal investigation requirements, specialist quality of life, positive thinking and mental focus, methods of treating abuse cases, interviewing child victims, monitoring violence, assessing child endangerment, social research skills, case management, and intervention and protection techniques.

This collaboration demonstrates the Philippines' commitment to learning from the UAE's expertise in child protection and police work, while underscoring the UAE Ministry of Interior's dedication to strengthening international relations through the exchange of training, expertise, knowledge, and best practices to improve law enforcement capabilities.

The program was launched in the UAE to enhance the skills of workers in child protection, dealing with reports, investigation, and the legal, psychological, social, and mental alertness fields.

Last September, the Philippines and the UAE discussed several avenues to enhance the trade and investment relationships between both countries amid a 19.4 percent increase in trade compared to 2022.

Both nations also explored ways to boost their bilateral relations and collaborate on joint economic projects in various sectors including clean energy, artificial intelligence, transportation, logistics, and banking and finance.
