The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Thales Alenia Space, making the company a strategic partner in developing the Pressure Equalisation Unit for the Gateway lunar space station.

The signing ceremony took place at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, witnessed the signing.

"Today, I was delighted to attend the signing of a cooperation agreement with Thales Alenia Space, in the presence of the President of the Italian Space Agency," Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was quoted as saying by WAM.

"This partnership is a major step towards realizing the UAE's space exploration goals, with Thales Alenia Space becoming a strategic partner in the country's role in the Lunar Gateway Space Station," he added.

Sheikh Hamdan went on to explain that this project marks a vital step in human space exploration, setting the stage for the first Emirati Arab astronaut to orbit the Moon. The MBRSC is spearheading the UAE's involvement in this initiative, marking a significant step toward establishing a lasting human presence on the Moon and supporting future planetary missions.

The UAE is collaborating with international partners, including the United States, Japan, Canada, and the European Union, to advance space exploration and discovery. Sheikh Hamdan emphasized the importance of this global partnership in pushing the boundaries of space research.

MBRSC Vice President Talal Humaid Belhoul Al Falasi said that this achievement reflects the UAE's leadership in creating an environment where ambition turns into action. As the country continues contributing to major global space missions, it strengthens its role in space exploration and enhances its scientific and technological leadership for the future.

He also highlighted that MBRSC's work on the Pressure Equalisation Unit for the Gateway lunar space station demonstrates the UAE's progress in space exploration. This achievement aligns with the nation's strategic vision to advance human exploration beyond Earth.

Thales CEO Alenia Space Hervé Derrey expressed gratitude to the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre for trusting the company with this project. He highlighted that the new pressurized unit is an essential part of the Lunar Gateway, as it will allow astronauts to conduct spacewalks.

He also emphasized Thales Alenia Space's support for MBRSC and the UAE's ambitious space exploration goals and their collaboration with international partners. This contract further strengthens Thales Alenia Space's leadership in space transportation, orbital infrastructure, and deep space exploration.
