Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Holding have signed a major agreement worth AED6 billion to improve the city's road and transport network.

The agreement will improve mobility and upgrade key development areas across Dubai, including Dubai Islands, Jumeirah Village Triangle, Palm Gateway, Al Furjan, Jumeirah Park, Arjan, Majan, Liwan (Phase 1), Nad Al Hamar, Villanova, and Serena.

As part of the agreement, new bridges and roads will be built to improve access to five key Dubai Holding developments: Jumeirah Village Circle, Dubai Production City, Business Bay, Palm Jumeirah, and International City (Phase 3).

"RTA remains dedicated to fostering strategic partnerships with real estate developers to ensure the road infrastructure in development areas can effectively accommodate traffic demand, enhancing seamless mobility for residents and visitors," said Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, according to WAM.

"The projects under this agreement will reduce travel time and increase the capacity of entry and exit points by 30 to 70%," he added.

Jumeirah Village Circle will get four new access points with upgraded interchanges, which will double the capacity of its entry and exit points. These improvements are expected to reduce travel time by 70% on internal roads and access points, while also making traffic flow smoother and safer.

Dubai Production City will benefit from new bridges connecting it to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. These upgrades will cut travel time at entry and exit points and improve traffic flow on internal roads by 50%.

In Business Bay, road surface improvements will be made at intersections connecting to Sheikh Zayed Road. A new pedestrian bridge will be built at the Business Bay intersection with First Al Khail Road to enhance pedestrian safety and improve traffic movement.

Upgrades to internal roads in the Towers Area are expected to reduce travel time by 30% at entry and exit points. Palm Jumeirah will see the addition of acceleration and deceleration lanes at six locations to improve traffic flow.

Two pedestrian bridges will replace existing crossings, making it safer for pedestrians and reducing travel time within Palm Jumeirah by 40%. For International City (Phase 3), the main entry road from Manama Street will be expanded with an extra lane.

Internal roads will also be widened, and intersections will be upgraded with traffic signals to improve traffic flow and safety. These changes are expected to cut travel time from 15 minutes to just five minutes.
