Arab Health 2025 Expo: Emirates Health Services Showcases Groundbreaking Healthcare Projects
Emirates Health Services (EHS) is the main highlight at the Arab Health 2025 expo, presenting several groundbreaking projects that are unique both in the region and globally, under the theme "The Future of Healthcare."
At the event, EHS is showcasing advanced technologies aimed at transforming chronic disease management and improving the quality of life for patients. Two major projects being featured are the Total Artificial Heart and Islet Cell Allo-Transplantation.
"Participating in Arab Health 2025 underscores our dedication at Emirates Health Services to delivering innovative solutions that can significantly improve patients' lives," Dr. Essam Al Zarooni, Acting Executive Director of the Medical Services Sector at EHS, was quoted as saying by WAM.
"The projects presented under the 'Future of Healthcare' theme mark a major leap forward in treating chronic conditions like heart disease and type 1 diabetes, reinforcing our commitment to building a brighter future for healthcare, in line with the National Strategy for Wellbeing 2031, which aims to enhance medical services for optimized community wellbeing," he added.
The Total Artificial Heart project is a major milestone for EHS, developed in partnership with the Texas Heart Institute. The project features a unique titanium pump that uses magnetic technology to circulate blood and fully support heart function, providing a solution for patients with severe heart failure.
After successful transplant surgeries in the United States, the project has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). EHS plans to introduce this technology at Al Qassimi Hospital in Sharjah as part of its efforts to improve heart failure treatment.
The Islet Cell Allo-Transplantation project, created in collaboration with the University of Chicago, marks a major step forward in treating type 1 diabetes. This method uses a simple but effective technique to reduce complications linked to traditional pancreatic transplants.
It involves transplanting pancreatic cells directly into the liver with a small catheter, helping patients control their blood sugar and prevent severe low blood sugar episodes. Over time, it may even eliminate the need for insulin.
Clinical trials have shown positive results, and the project has received FDA approval as a safe and effective alternative to older methods. These projects highlight EHS' forward-thinking approach to healthcare, using the latest global medical technology.
They align with the goals of the 'We the UAE 2031' vision and the UAE Centennial 2071 Plan, aiming to improve the local healthcare sector and the quality of services offered.
