Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) reported a 20% increase in compliance among service providers in 2024 compared to 2023, following inspections and audits of licensing activities.

RTA Enhances Inspections, Sees 3% Drop in Violations

In 2024, RTA carried out approximately 579,000 inspections and licensing transactions, a 20% increase from the previous year. Despite the higher number of checks, recorded violations decreased by 3%.

"By leveraging advanced data analysis technologies and violation detection tools, these efforts have enhanced inspection accuracy, enabling a more focused approach to activities more likely to incur violations," Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of the Licensing Agency at RTA, was quoted as saying by WAM.

"In addition, strengthened collaboration with relevant authorities has fostered greater regulatory coordination, leading to higher compliance levels and more effective inspection processes," he added.

Mahboob emphasized that RTA's improvements in inspection processes in 2024 included a significant increase in inspections and audits, along with expanded awareness campaigns. A total of 30 campaigns were conducted in partnership with nine entities across the emirate.

RTA's Efforts Boost Compliance and Drive New Development Initiatives

As a result, awareness among businesses grew, leading to better compliance with regulations. The decrease in violations in 2024 compared to the previous year highlights RTA's efforts to educate licensed establishments and ensure adherence to rules and standards.

RTA is also working on new development initiatives to address challenges and further improve operational efficiency as part of its long-term plans.

Earlier this month, RTA and Dubai Holding signed a major agreement worth AED6 billion to improve the city's road and transport network.

The agreement will improve mobility and upgrade key development areas across Dubai, including Dubai Islands, Jumeirah Village Triangle, Palm Gateway, Al Furjan, Jumeirah Park, Arjan, Majan, Liwan (Phase 1), Nad Al Hamar, Villanova, and Serena.

Last month, RTA signed an agreement with U.S.-based The Boring Company to study the Dubai Loop tunnel project's implementation. The agreement, signed during the 2025 World Governments Summit (WGS), aims to enhance collaboration between both parties in tunnel excavation and construction.

Dubai Loop, a planned 17-kilometer tunnel with 11 stations, is designed to carry over 20,000 passengers per hour as part of a long-term plan to develop a citywide loop transportation network.
