The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), real estate developer Miral, and Tokyo-based art collective teamLab announced 70% completion of the teamLab Phenomena art museum.

The concrete structure development of the art museum, which will be spread across 17,000 square meters, is completed while the remaining 30% comprises of construction of the artwork spaces.

Unlike other stones or man-made designs for a stable structure, the existence of the teamLab Phenomena art museum will be dependent on the environment.

"A key characteristic of teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi is the environment and the various phenomena created by it. The environment stabilizes the structure of these phenomena, and the stabilized phenomena become the artworks themselves," Toshiyuki Inoko, founder of teamLab, was quoted as saying by WAM.

Inoko noted that unlike other stones or man-made designs that can maintain a stable structure on their own, the artworks at teamLab Phenomena do not exist independently, but are dependent on their environment.

The 46-year-old founder noted that if people break the work apart, it will still exist as long as its environment is maintained. However, the work will disappear if the environment is not maintained.

"In time, people's consciousness will expand to include the environment. A stone can continue to exist in a closed box, sealed off from the outside world, but life cannot sustain its existence in such a box. Life is a miraculous phenomenon that emerges from a flow in a continuous world," he added.

Meanwhile, Miral aims to develop teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi as a "captivating cultural journey that brings a new realm of educational exploration and creative discovery to the emirate."

"The curated, experiential space will add yet another outstanding experience to Miral's portfolio of world-class experiences and attractions, appealing to visitors from across the globe," Jonathan Brown, Chief Portfolio Officer of Miral, said in a statement.

The teamLab Phenomena art museum, located on Al Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi, will showcase constantly transforming artistic installations and the designs will be based on teamLab's concept of Environmental Phenomena.

Last month, United Arab Emirates' property development company Arada collaborated with Japan-based architect Tadao Ando to design Il Teatro, which will be a new performing arts center in Sharjah's largest lifestyle community, Aljada, which is an event venue by Arada developers.
