The American University of Sharjah (AUS) signed an agreement with the University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) to establish an accelerated 4+1 program, allowing students from the AUS College of Engineering (CEN) to complete both a bachelor's and a master's degree in just five years instead of the usual six or more.

Via this program, eligible AUS students will complete their undergraduate studies at AUS and then transition to UT Dallas to pursue a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, provided they meet all degree requirements, WAM reported.

Students accepted into graduate programs at UT Dallas can apply for scholarships. These scholarships offer financial support to help them continue their studies and progress in their academic and professional careers.

The agreement also includes research and training opportunities, as well as the possibility of exchange and study-abroad programs. This supports AUS's goal of offering globally recognized education and preparing students for a fast-changing world.

UT Dallas is ranked among the top 55 universities in the United States and third in Texas, according to the US News Best Colleges Ranking 2025.

"We are committed to breaking barriers and offering our students transformative opportunities," Dr. Moahmed El-Tarhuni, Interim Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost.

"This partnership with UT Dallas shows our dedication to providing pathways that enhance both academic growth and global competitiveness, ensuring our students are well-prepared for leadership in the evolving world of engineering and technology," he added.

Dr. Fadi Aloul, Dean of the College of Engineering at AUS, stated that the partnership with UT Dallas provides students with the opportunity to gain international academic experience, shorten their study duration, reduce education costs, and enhance their career prospects.

He also spoke about plans to expand collaboration with UT Dallas in other engineering fields in the future.

With this UT Dallas partnership, CEN has now entered into three 4+1 program agreements with prestigious institutions. This reflects its commitment to providing students with the skills, knowledge, and global experience required to lead in the fast-evolving fields of engineering and technology.

AUS previously signed a partnership deal with Beta Information Technology to provide practical training and internship opportunities in various IT sectors to students of the AUS CEN.
