Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed upgrades on Sheikh Zayed Road to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion. These enhancements aim to make the road network more efficient, ease bottlenecks at busy intersections, and increase overall capacity while ensuring safety.

RTA has expanded the service road next to the Financial Centre Metro Station in the Abu Dhabi-bound direction, increasing the number of lanes from three to four. This upgrade has boosted road capacity by 25%, allowing 3,200 vehicles per hour instead of 2,400, WAM reported.

The improvement has also reduced congestion at the entrance, eliminated vehicle queues, and improved traffic flow, cutting travel time from five minutes to just two. Additionally, RTA has extended the traffic merging distance between Al Khail Road and Financial Centre Street in the Dubai-bound direction.

This adjustment has eased congestion and enhanced service levels, leading to a 25% reduction in travel time on Sheikh Zayed Road — from four minutes to three — ensuring smoother and more efficient traffic movement.

The project is part of RTA's ongoing efforts to introduce smart traffic solutions that align with the city's rapid expansion. The improvements focused on key areas along Sheikh Zayed Road, one of Dubai's most important highways.

This road runs through residential districts and major business hubs, including the Dubai International Financial Centre, Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, and several multinational companies, banks, hotels, and entertainment venues.

As a critical route for commuters and businesses, the upgrades help support smoother and more efficient travel across the city.

"RTA remains committed to enhancing traffic flow across Dubai, particularly on Sheikh Zayed Road. Through innovative enhancements and traffic solutions, we aim to provide a seamless and safe travel experience for all motorists and road users across the emirate," Director of Traffic at RTA's Traffic and Roads Agency Ahmed Al Khzaimy said.

Earlier this month, RTA and Dubai Holding signed a significant agreement worth AED6 billion to improve the city's road and transport network.

The agreement will enhance mobility and upgrade key development areas across Dubai, including Dubai Islands, Jumeirah Village Triangle, Palm Gateway, Al Furjan, Jumeirah Park, Arjan, Majan, Liwan (Phase 1), Nad Al Hamar, Villanova, and Serena.
