ADFD Inaugurates 6.3MW Solar Plant In Comoros To Boost Clean Energy Access

The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has officially opened a 6.3-megawatt solar power plant in the Comoros, a project funded with AED 25.7 million (US$7 million).
The new facility is expected to strengthen the country's energy infrastructure, meet growing electricity demands, and support economic development. It also reflects ADFD's broader commitment to environmental protection and sustainable growth, WAM reported.
The new solar power plant will connect to the Comoros' national electricity grid through medium-voltage lines, helping provide reliable electricity to the region. This project is part of ADFD's long-standing support for the Comoros.
Since 1979, the Fund has provided AED 439.4 million (US$119.6 million) in loans and grants to help develop key sectors like energy, health, education, and transport.
By improving clean energy infrastructure, the project supports several global goals — specifically, affordable and clean energy (SDG 7), climate action (SDG 13), and building strong partnerships (SDG 17). It also aligns with ADFD's mission to promote sustainable development around the world.
Azali Assoumani, President of the Union of the Comoros, praised the strong partnership with the UAE and ADFD, recognizing their efforts in advancing renewable energy and climate action.
He acknowledged ADFD's important role in promoting sustainable energy projects, which support global sustainability goals and use innovative technology to improve access to clean power. He also emphasized the positive impact of the project on the country's development.
The solar plant not only boosts clean energy production but also plays a key role in strengthening economic stability and creating new job opportunities, marking a significant step in the Comoros' transition to renewable energy.
Al Remeithi highlighted that the solar power project reflects the strong relationship between the UAE and the Union of the Comoros. He said it shows the UAE's ongoing support for sustainable development and its commitment to building strategic partnerships, especially in renewable energy.
The project is seen as an important step towards environmental stability and part of the UAE's efforts to support global action on climate change.
Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of ADFD, said the new solar plant is a major step forward in the Comoros' economic and social development. By investing in renewable energy, ADFD is helping ensure long-term sustainability and environmental care.
