International Conference Launches First Global Scientific Award For Autism Research And Innovation

The International Conference on Developments in Autism Research has introduced the first-ever global scientific award focused on autism research.
This award aims to encourage new, evidence-based ideas that improve the lives of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families. It provides a platform to recognize and share outstanding research, helping to increase global understanding and progress in the field.
During the third edition of the conference, experts highlighted the need to use artificial intelligence to create helpful programs for people with ASD, WAM reported.
They also called for more job training and employment opportunities, especially for those with profound autism who need more support. Additionally, the conference stressed the importance of including applied behavior analysis (ABA) and relationship-building techniques in education programs.
Abdullah Abdul Ali Al Humaidan, Secretary-General of Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination, shared his happiness over the success of the autism research conference.
He highlighted that the event produced valuable recommendations that will guide future efforts, aiming to turn challenges into achievements through shared knowledge and collaboration.
In the closing session, Al Humaidan noted that the conference featured around 63 scientific talks, 45 expert workshops, and five discussion panels. Over 125 specialists spoke at the event, including 54 international experts and 71 from the UAE.
Topics covered included new research in genetics, brain-gut connection, neuroimaging, and the use of AI in diagnosis and treatment. Sessions also focused on early intervention, inclusive education, family support, and community integration.
Al Humaidan thanked all participants and teams, reaffirming the Organisation's dedication to supporting innovative research, promoting the use of technology, and strengthening global cooperation to build an inclusive society.
He also announced a proposal to create a permanent scientific committee on autism. This group would include doctors and researchers, and support a platform for reviewing and sharing research and new treatment or nutrition-based ideas.
Professor Lisa Pratt, Executive Director and Academic President of Fatima College of Health Sciences, thanked everyone who supported the conference and praised Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination for their ongoing efforts to empower people of determination and for their key role in making the event a success.
Pratt also thanked ADNOC for their strong support of community health and education, and appreciated the Lotus Center for organizing the event so well.
