UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has appointed his eldest son Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed as the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi.

In a series of appointments announced Wednesday, Sheikh Mohamed, who became Abu Dhabi ruler last year, also named his brother Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed as UAE vice president. Sheikh Mansour will work alongside the incumbent Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The Abu Dhabi Ruler also named Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed and Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed as the UAE capital's Deputy Rulers.

Sheikh Mohamed made the recent appointments in his capacity as UAE's Head of State, as per a statement by the Abu Dhabi media office.

"Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, has issued resolutions, with the approval of the UAE Federal Supreme Council, to appoint Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE and Minister of Presidential Court, as UAE Vice President, alongside His Highness Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai," the statement read.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid took to Twitter to congratulate the new appointees. "I congratulate my brother Sheikh Hazza, Sheikh Tahnoun, Sheikh Mansour and Sheikh Khalid bin Muhammad for the confidence of the President of the State. In you and your brothers, the leaders of the new generation, the march continues," he wrote.

Before his latest appointment, Sheikh Mansour previously served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court. He also held important positions in the business sector and Abu Dhabi's wealth funds.

One of his recent positions was the Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, where he earned commendations for his innovative leadership. During his term, he revamped the judicial department with a focus on civic and family laws that aimed to detach expatriates from the Sharia-based legal system. As the head of the Emirati Talent Competitiveness Council, he was at the helm of the country's Emiratization program.

Meanwhile, newly-appointed Abu Dhabi Deputy Ruler Sheikh Tahnoun also serves as a National Security Adviser and concurrently holds top positions in some of the UAE's biggest state-run firms. For his part. Sheikh Hazza is the current Deputy Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and also oversees some of the largest sports clubs and businesses in the country.
