The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has issued a statement condemning the Israeli forces' Thursday attack on the Palestinian camp of Jenin.

In its statement, the ministry urged Israeli authorities to take responsibility for their action, which has resulted in numerous deaths and injuries in the camp.

Emphasizing the need to back all regional and international efforts to expedite the Middle East Peace Process, the ministry also called on the forces behind the attack to de-escalate, and not make any move that would only intensify the tension and aggravate the instability in the region, the Khaleej Times reported.

The ministry also called for an end to the illegal practices that terrorize the two-state nation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Following the attack, the UAE, China, and France have urged the UN Security Council to conduct an emergency closed-door meeting Friday to discuss the latest updates on the storming of Jenin. The UAE is also expecting the UN Special Coordinator to discuss its assessment of the Middle East Peace Process during the meeting.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia also condemned the recent attack, media outlet WAM reported. The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement Thursday denounced the international law violations committed during the attack, while asking global community to work together to "end the occupation, stop the Israeli escalation and aggressions, and provide the necessary protection for civilians."

Saudi Arabia also expressed its sympathies to the families of the victims who died and were wounded during the incident, as well as to the people of Palestine.

The Thursday storming of Jenin marks the deadliest Israeli raid into the refugee camp in nearly two decades. At least 30 were killed as Israeli forces surrounded buildings and fired guns, grenades, and used tear gas to attack the camp. Among the victims were a 61-year-old civilian woman and other members of Palestine's military group.

Israeli troops said they were operating in Jenin on Thursday to arrest a "terror squad belonging to the Islamic Jihad terror organization," adding that they had been able to kill three "terrorists" during the raid.
