The UAE is dedicated to working with BRICS countries on joint food security projects and increasing food trade among member nations, Minister of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak said.

Al Dahak, who attended the 14th Meeting of the BRICS Ministers of Agriculture on June 28 with Undersecretary of MOCCAE Mohammed Saeed Al Nuaimi and several ministry officials, emphasized cooperation in environmental conservation and promoting sustainable systems.

The delegation took part in technical sessions and met with representatives from BRICS countries. Al Dahak highlighted the UAE's goal to develop a strong multilateral framework, noting the importance of constructive dialogue to advance food security, boost trade, and create sustainable food systems among all member states.

Al Dahak explained that the UAE's strategy to enhance national food security and achieve food self-sufficiency is clear to implement the goals of the National Food Security Strategy 2051.

"We recognize that mitigating the impacts of climate change and enhancing resilience are global challenges. Therefore, we are committed to developing sustainable food systems, both domestically and internationally," she said, according to WAM.

She went on to explain that the Middle Eastern country is actively working to enhance intra-trade to ensure the sustainability of supply chains while adhering to international standards and scientific principles.

The minister mentioned that the UAE is proud to sign comprehensive economic partnership agreements that facilitate the smooth flow of trade and remove unjustified restrictions, adding that the country wants to promote fair, inclusive, and equitable trade in the agricultural sector.

Al Dahak stressed the importance of trade in enhancing food security, nutrition and sustainable agriculture in both BRICS countries and globally, noting that the UAE has prioritized food trade as a fundamental component of its food security strategy.

"The UAE welcomes the establishment of the BRICS Grain Exchange, anticipating that the initiative will facilitate further discussions aimed at advancing our shared objectives in the trade of grains, one of the most critical strategic food commodities," she said.

"We look forward to increased, substantive, and productive cooperation in agriculture and sustainable food security, which are fundamental to the growth and prosperity of any country," she added.
