The ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, has approved the designs and location for a new Sports City, which will include four sports complexes designed for both team and individual sports.

Ali bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi, a member of the Executive Council and Head of the Sharjah Department of Public Works (SDPW), shared this news Tuesday during a phone interview on the "Direct Line" program on Sharjah Radio and Television, WAM reported.

Al Suwaidi explained that the Ruler of Sharjah personally drew the design for the city, which featured a central square with four main roads leading to it. These roads connect to Al Madam, Al Badayer, Mahafiz and Al Bataeh and Sharjah Sports City.

At the center of this square will be the "Sports City Stadium." Al Suwaidi mentioned that the stadium was the first phase of the Sports City project, and was designed as a unique architectural piece, symbolizing a bird soaring over sand dunes.

The structure has two main parts: the platform and grandstand, which are shaped like the rolling sand dunes of the area, and a large roof that looks like a bird with its wings spread. The color of the roof changes throughout the day -- silver in the morning as it reflects sunlight and a golden-red hue at night.

The design is eco-friendly, blending with the natural surroundings and symbolizing the qualities of an athlete, similar to a falcon's sharp vision, speed, and strength. The stadium is reportedly built to host events and tournaments at local, regional, and global levels.

"We will immediately proceed with completing the detailed designs for the Sports City Stadium and commence its construction to ensure it is ready to serve athletes, all clubs in the emirate, and the sports sector as soon as possible," Al Suwaidi said.

On the same day, the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry officially launched the Pakistan Business Council in the city to boost trade and investment exchanges, capitalize on available opportunities for mutual benefit, and contribute to the growth of the private sector.

Earlier this week, Saudi airline "Flynas" got added to the list of airlines with regular flights to and from Sharjah in the UAE.
