UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on Monday approved a plan to expand the Dubai Exhibition Centre (DEC) at Expo City Dubai with an investment of AED 10 billion.

The DEC will be the biggest indoor event and exhibition venue in the region after its completion. This expansion is part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and is key to Expo City Dubai's goal of becoming a vibrant economic center, focused on hosting global exhibitions and events.

"This iconic venue will not only become the largest indoor exhibition and events destination in the region but also set new global standards for excellence in the industry. We are committed to consolidating Dubai's status as a global leader in the events and exhibitions sector and the top destination for mega events," Al Maktoum was quoted as saying by WAM.

"Our events provide platforms for connecting people, ideas, and opportunities from across the globe. They provide the impetus for economic growth, boost tourism, and contribute significantly to advancing our national projects, strengthening Dubai's growing role as a global economic hub," he added.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, who holds multiple positions, including Chairman of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Emirates Airline, said that Dubai has been transformed from just a travel and tourism destination into a global center for innovation and business.

He shared that Dubai has strengthened its position as one of the most influential cities in the world. It has become a place where people gather to shape the future of business and creativity, making it an exciting city that draws talent and opportunities from around the world.

Sheikh Ahmed added that the expansion of the Dubai Exhibition Centre has been carefully planned to support the goals of Expo City Dubai, the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and the upcoming expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport, which will be the largest airport in the world when completed.

He emphasized that the coordinated development of this unique urban area, along with its vibrant communities, demonstrates Dubai's forward-thinking strategy in creating a model for a future city that meets the highest international standards.

While the prime minister was given a brief on the master plan for the DEC, he was accompanied by Mohammed Al Shaibani, Director-General of The Ruler's Court of Dubai; Mattar Al Tayer, Commissioner-General for Infrastructure, Urban Planning and Well-Being Pillar; Helal Saeed Almarri, Director-General of the Dubai World Trade Centre Authority (DWTCA); Dawoud Al Hajri, Director-General of Dubai Municipality; and the senior management of DWTC.
